Abstract
AI-enhanced teledermatology stands as a transformative force in addressing the profound disparities in dermatological care, particularly prevalent in rural and underserved areas. This comprehensive literature review underscores the pivotal role of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing teledermatology by providing swift and precise assessments of skin conditions through digital platforms. Notably, existing research demonstrates AI’s capacity to improve diagnostic accuracy by leveraging vast datasets and advanced algorithms, thereby reducing misdiagnosis rates and optimizing treatment outcomes. Moreover, AI-powered teledermatology platforms offer significant advantages in reducing consultation wait times, allowing patients in remote locations prompt access to specialized care. However, amidst these advancements, ethical considerations regarding patient privacy, consent, and data security emerge as critical concerns warranting careful deliberation and regulatory oversight. To advance the field, future research endeavors should focus on refining AI algorithms to accommodate diverse skin types and conditions, ensuring inclusivity and accuracy across populations. Additionally, exploring innovative applications such as AI-driven triage systems and remote monitoring tools could further enhance the efficiency and efficacy of teledermatology services, ultimately narrowing the gap in access to dermatological care and improving health outcomes for underserved communities. The integration of AI into teledermatology not only promises to bridge geographical disparities in dermatological care but also heralds a new era of precision, accessibility, and equity in healthcare delivery.
